18

A cinematic inquiry into Steve Reich’s foundational masterpiece, Music for 18 Musicians, 50 years after its inception.

This documentary investigates the piece's form, influences and legacy through interviews with key musicians and critics, intercutting these insights with diverse visuals, including dance choreography, formalistic visuals, avant-garde archival images, etc., in a collage style that embodies the experimental spirit of 1970s downtown New York artistic scene.
